Therapy: The Biggest Gift You Can Give Yourself

Seeking help is hard, and finding good help is even harder. It takes willingness, vulnerability, and strength.

In my ten years training and practicing as a psychologist, I have often seen how trusting a therapist with your story can feel both daunting and relieving. I have learned from my experiences providing and receiving therapy that, as risky as it feels to go through it, the results can be life changing.

I believe seeking mental health support is the biggest gift you can give yourself. As your therapist, it is my top priority to provide you with support, empathy and a safe place to heal, grow and change.

Training and Career

I have over a decade of experience working in different clinical settings including university counseling centers, community mental health clinics, hospitals and private practices. In these settings, I have offered thousands of hours of individual, couples and group therapy, conducted assessments and evaluations, worked within multidisciplinary teams and offered supervision to clinicians at various levels of training. I have also held roles focused on coordinating clinical training as well as diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

In addition to clinical work, I have worked on research teams that have published research on help-seeking stigma, group therapy and the impact of forgiveness on health. And, I have taught various psychology courses to undergraduate and graduate students.

What to Expect in Therapy

Rachel Heinrichs, Delray Beach psychotherapist

Should we get the privilege of working together, I look forward to collaborating with you to:

  • better understand your goals for therapy

  • better understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors

  • increase your sense of agency, and

  • facilitate a deepening of your relationships with yourself and others

I believe one of the most important factors in successful therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist. To this end, I aim to create a warm and welcoming environment to collaboratively explore and grow.

You can expect me to provide support, emotional attunement, and gentle accountability. I approach the therapeutic relationship with curiosity, humility, humor and openness, and I operate with an understanding that you know yourself best and possess what it takes to live a rich and meaningful life.

In addition to a focus on the relationship, I utilize an integrative approach, tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of my clients. See below for a list of therapeutic approaches I often use.

You are Welcome

  • identity development

  • adjustment concerns

  • relationship difficulties

  • chronic health concerns

  • eating and body image concerns

  • traumatic experiences

A person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity; a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits.
